Most days,
to anyone who sees me,
I am nothing
but another member
of the human race.
A long,
rigid
face,
body hair
so microscopic,
I may as well be bare flesh.
Blue eyes sitting above the nose,
ankles and knees and opposable thumbs
10 fingers and 10 toes
bitten nails and bony lumps.
Most days,
to anyone who sees me,
I am nothing
but a woman.
Empathetic and wild,
curious and bound
by the body
and the mind.
Today,
If you were to go looking,
you
would
not
see
me.
Today,
I
am
nothing
but
an
animal
sitting on a rock.
saying not a word.
dressed in the heat of the sun.
covered in sand.
bathing in wind.
Allowing my eyes to wander where they will
(my thoughts to follow)
Listening to the waves
as the fresh water writhes and crashes onto the rocky shore
before pulling back and reeling in once more.
Later, I may walk along the creekside,
find a new place to rest;
For now,
that fire in the sky is climbing higher and higher
in it's midday blaze,
and I think I will stay here and sit a while,
a wild animal,
perched on this rock,
lifting my nose to the air,
taking in the day,
breathing in the space and laying down to rest;
Soothed by the sweet lullaby of the world,
I close my eyes
to
see.
